- Introduction to electronic instrumentation
- Review: devices and models, single and multi stage amplifiers, frequency response, feedback and stability.
- Current and voltage references: basic mirrors, beta amplified, cascode, Wilson, Widlar, selfbias. Mismatch, unbalance, drift, supply. Band gap references.
- Precision operational amplifiers: accuracy, gain, linearity, dynamic behavior, offset and offset drift, bias and offset currents, CMRR, PSRR.
- Instrumentation amplifiers: OPAMP/INAMP differences, differential amplifiers, instrumentation amplifiers, monolithic INAMPS, auto-zero. Specifications, selection and applications.
- Comparators: ideal and real comparators, static and dynamic behavior. CMOS comparators, push-pull, reactive loads, auto-zero. Comparators with hysteresis, switched capacitors, latch. High speed comparators.
- Analog switches: ideal and real switches, single FET switch, CMOS transmission gate. Limitations and accuracy.
- Noise in electronic systems: noise sources, device noise model (passive, BJT, JFET, MOSFET). Noise calculation, equivalent input noise, SNR, noise figure, noise bandwidth. Noise in single stage amplifiers (CE, CB, CC, differential pairs). Noise in feedback systems. Noise in OPAMP. Low noise design.
- Review: guided propagation, distributed/lumped models, transmission lines.
- Two port networks: scattering parameters, sABCD matrix, transformations, Smith chart, matching.
- Gain and stability: definitions, matching, stability criteria, design.
- High frequency measurements: Introduction, instrumentation, network analyzer.
- High frequency noise: Introduction, definitions, noise measurement, low noise design.
