Birefringence evaluation in multimodal and multilayer AlGaAs/AlAs waveguides

We investigate surface-emitting second harmonic generation as a powerful technique for the evaluation of the birefringence in optical waveguides supporting several modes. This one-shot diagnostics, demonstrated at 1319Ám in multilayer AlGaAs waveguides, is proposed as a characterization tool for parametric integrated optics structures.
